Komal is currently associated with Policy Change Initiative as a Research Associate. Prior to this, she was a post-graduate student at Gokhale Institute of Politics & Economics, Pune wherein she completed her masters’ in Economics.

She has always been inclined towards helping the underprivileged, and therefore her research interests lie in developmental economics. To take her interest forward, she interned at National Institute of Public Finance & Policy (NIPFP), a New Delhi based think tank. As a part of her internship, she worked on gender budgeting, and nutrition under Dr Lekha Chakraborty, a pioneer in gender budgeting in India. A part of her report on nutritional status in Gujarat was published as an article ‘What ails Gujarat’s Nutrition’ in ‘ The Financial Express’. She has co-authored ‘The Political Economy of Gender Budgeting: Empirical Evidence from India’, which was published as a working paper on NIPFP’s website.

Moreover, during her masters’, she worked on labour economics, macroeconomics, and public finance. She has been awarded with the best paper awards at national level conferences for papers in the aforementioned areas.

She is currently willing to work to assess the ground realities of the development arena in India, and is looking forward to contribute as a researcher to the social sector in India.
