Mukul BhatiaResearch Intern
Mukul is a graduate in Economics from Panjab University, Chandigarh and a post-graduate in International Relations from South Asian University, New Delhi.
He is particularly interested in a contextual analysis of issues in International Affairs through multi-disciplinary approaches. His master’s thesis sought to explore how emotions such as fear and honour have historically manifested themselves in institutions and policy. For this purpose, he conducted an empirical examination of two case studies- First, the programmes initiated by the governments of India and Pakistan to recover women abducted to both sides during the Partition of India in 1947 and second, the detention of Indian nationals of Chinese origin by the Indian state in the aftermath of the Sino-Indian War of 1962.
He has also worked as an intern at the Jadavpur Association of International Relations, Kolkata, where he worked on a project under the supervision of Professor Anindya Majumdar. The project sought to explore how power struggle among different organs of the state influence foreign policy decisionmaking in India, by taking the examples of the Intelligence Bureau and Atomic Energy Commission.
He is also associated with a student collective known as “The Bridge Project” in the capacity of a researcher. This collective provides a common platform to policymakers and scholars of International Relations to engage with each other directly on issues in International Affairs.
Mukul is passionate about science fiction and existential philosophy.
